Oregon Health Sciences University Riverfront Building 1
During conceptual design of this 16-story building, the architectural firm was considering installation of window shades on the South facing windows to reduce solar heat load in the building. By reducing solar heat load, the air-conditioning units could be reduced in size thereby reducing construction costs and reducing electric consumption. Dynalectric suggested installing solar panels rather than sun shades.
The solar panel performed the required window shading, plus provides 60 KW of solar power. There are 354 panels mounted, starting on the fourth floor and extending up to the 14 floor with two 30 KW inverters mounted on the seventh and tenth floors. The solar panels were installed and pre-wired at the window manufacturing facility which reduced installation time and cost.
